Anambra awards contract for road networks valued at N7bn
The State Executive Council
of Anambra State has approved the construction of four more roads at the
sum of over 7.271 Billion Naira. The Commission for Information,
Culture and Tourism, Chief Joemartins Uzodike announced this during the
weekly post EXCO press briefing at the Government House, Awka. According
to the
Commissioner, the roads include
Umuoji- Micro Finance Bank-Ekeagu-Abatete road awarded at the cost of
over Eight hundred and thirty million Naira with completion period of
nine months; Nwafor Orizu College of Education Gate Road to Nsugbe
Express at a contract sum of over 1.535 Billion Naira and completion
period of ten months.
Chief Uzodike said the council also approved the construction of the 11.2- Kilometre Atani-Ozubulu road, awarded at the cost of over 5.418 billion naira with a completion period of eighteen months. He explained that the three bridges on the road have reached advanced stages of completion.
In addition, the Commissioner disclosed that the EXCO also approved the award of contract for the construction of PHCN road, Awada, Onitsha at a cost of over 490.536 Million Naira and completion period of six months.
Chief Uzodike said the council equally appealed to citizens and residents of the State to register and have their data captured in the on-going Anambra State Identity Card Programme. The Commissioner, who regretted that many people have been reluctant to participate in the exercise because of fear of taxation, explained that the exercise is to capture comprehensive data of all residents and provide their numbers for easy identification.
He emphasized that the State identity card will be a requisite for any government transaction, registration and even admissions and will in future assist hospitals for treatment.
On the on-going restructuring of the ABS, Chief Uzodike said the exercise was to down size the staff numerical straight and explained that negotiation was on to reabsorb them in various ministries, urging those affected to exercise patience.
