Kogi, Anambra crisis: Group urges FG to avert ethnic war
A
group under the auspices of Networks of Igala Association has called on
President Goodluck Jonathan to wade into the lingering boundary dispute
between Ibaji community in Kogi State and Aguleri Otu in Anambra State
to avoid what it called an unnecessary ethnic war.
President of the group, Dr Goodman
Akwu, made the appeal at the weekend while speaking to journalists at
Idah. Akwu said the two communities have been living peacefully for
centuries.
“We have been living together and even
inter-marry, but since oil was discovered in the land, peace has
departed the area. Anambra people want to claim that area because of
oil”, he said.
He urged the Federal Government to
stop foot dragging over the issue, adding that since the Orient Oil has
the right of exploration of the said oil well, the people of Ibaji in
Kogi State have the right to enjoy the benefit of their land.
“It will be a shame on the people of
the Northern region if the people or the land that produced the oil for
Orient Oils is refused to enjoy the benefit of it. The Arewa
Consultative Forum, (ACF) Northern Governors’ Forum and allied agencies
have been informed of the injustice being metted to the people of Kogi
State over the denial of this benefit,” he said.
